74138 is a 3 to 8 line decoder or multiplexer IC. this IC is most suited for high-speed bipolar memory chip select address decoding. The device is made of Schottky diode which makes is a high-speed device and compatible with TTL IC.
The 74138 is a decoder/demultiplexer integrated circuit (IC) that is primarily designed to convert a binary code input into an output among several lines. It has 3-to-8 line decoding capabilities, meaning it takes three binary inputs and selects one of the eight output lines based on the input code.
Here’s how it works:
The 74138 has three binary inputs labeled A, B, and C, which collectively provide eight different binary combinations (000 to 111).
When a specific binary code is applied to the inputs A, B, and C, the corresponding output line becomes active (goes high or ‘1’), while the rest remain inactive (stay low or ‘0’).
It operates by using internal logic gates to decode the binary input and activate the corresponding output line. For instance, if the inputs are set to 010, the second output line (Y1) will become active (output ‘1’), while the rest will remain inactive.
This IC is commonly used in digital circuitry for address decoding, selecting memory banks, or directing signals in various electronic systems based on specific binary input combinations.
